Rangers find their catcher.

New Rangers catcher Danny Jansen.

The Rangers offense got a little better with the announcement that they have signed catcher Danny Jansen to a two-year, 14.5-million-dollar deal.

The thirty-year-old right-hand batting catcher has had a couple down seasons at the plate after seven really strong years in Toronto. In fact, 2022 was his best year, putting up a 142 OPS+ on the strength of a .260 average and .338 on-base percentage.

Jansen split last season with both the Rays and the Brewers, putting up a 101 OPS+, driving in thirty-five runs, with a .215 average and .321 OBP. Heim’s OPS+ last season was 77. As usual, he disappeared at the plate in the second half.

Jansen may not be the offensive threat he once was when he was with Toronto, but he’s a solid bat to pair with Kyle Higoshioka, and an upgrade over Heim.

Is he the piece the Rangers need to launch themselves into the playoffs? Time will tell. But he does make the offense better.
