Jung out.   Recently updated !

Josh Jung out two weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Josh Jung redemption tour hit a snag. On Saturday, he went down with “something in his hamstring” as he described it. That something is a Grade 1 adductor strain.

It’s expected he will miss two weeks.

Injuries have plagued Jung his entire career. Last year, though, he was injury free, playing in 131 games. It was a lack of production that prevented him from more games, as he was benched and sent down to Triple-A. He was just one of the Rangers who’ve been offensive disappointments the last two seasons. Three of those players are no long with the Rangers. Marcus Semien was traded to the Mets. Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim were let go.

That leaves it to Jung, Jake Burger, Joc Pederson, and Evan Carter to turn around their poor offensive seasons. But as far as Jung is concerned, you’d have to think this is a make or break season for the twenty-eight-year-old, like last season was for Semien, Garcia, and Heim. Eventually, you have to stop living off the glory of that All-Star 2023 season and continue to produce, which is something Jung has been unable to do. He’s hit .255 with an anemic .693 OPS the last two years, that includes seventy-seven RBIs. Not a bad number for one year, but that’s his last two seasons’ combines.

Jung has turned himself into a light-hitting third baseman who can play stellar defense. That’s the definition of a journeyman.

Sitting out two weeks won’t help.
