Rangers drop opener to Rockies.

Rangers startre MacKenzie Gore takes the L after working just one inning.

Can the Rangers undo the MacKenzie Gore trade? They shipped five prospects to Washington for a pitcher they could have gotten the same production out of from a last-minute, bargain barrel arm.

That’s five prospects they could have been able to use at the deadline or during the offseason to turn into some sort of talent. True, prospects are just prospects. But they are considered valuable currency in front offices. And the Rangers let go of five valuable chips to get Gore. It kind of makes you wonder who is evaluating the talent? Have the rehired Jon Daniels?

Gore came into the season an average major league starter. He had a 4.19 lifetime ERA in four seasons with San Diego and Washington. He strikes out a ton of hitters, which front offices covet way too much. He gives up a ton of runs, which front offices overlook because of the strikeouts.

Last night, Gore managed only one inning, leaving the game with lat tightness, and two Rockies runs on the scoreboard. But he got two strikeouts. And that’s all that matters.

The Rangers removed Gore out of an abundance of caution. They were worried he might give up a lot more runs. Unfortunately, the bullpen did. And Texas starts the three-game series in Colorado with an embarrassing loss.
