Once again, the Rays ace Drew Rassmussen is stepping up in the biggest arena.
Against the Yankees in the Division Series, Rasmussen tossed a gem, taking a no-hitter into the eighth before allowing a non-eventful single in a stifling 1-0 win over New York.
In Game 1 of the Championship Series against Cleveland, he pitched six innings, giving up two runs, and leaving the game tied 2-2. His bullpen proceded to give up five runs in a 7-3 loss.
Last night, Rasmussen tossed seven dominating innings, striking out six and allowing just one run in the Rays 3-1 win that puts them up three games to two in the best-of-seven series as they head home to Tampa Bay for Game 6 tonight.
Rasmussen is on quite a run. Since the All-Star break, he’s 11-0, sporting a miniscule 1.73 ERA.
The 31-year-old righty is the most underrated pitcher in baseball, with a career ERA of 2.83 in seven seasons (for reference, future Hall of Famer Jacob deGrom’s career ERA is 2.73.) If the Rays make it to the World Series, Rasmussen will certainly be the Game 1 starter for the Rays and will give a broader audience (thousands of people will watch a Rays-Brewers World Series) and he’ll finally get the recognition he is due.
