Two noteworthy things happened last night. They may turn out to insignificant blips on the radar screen. Or they could be the start of something bigger.
Josh Jung collected two hits. And Jakob Junius picked up his first save of the year.
Jung has struggled since the All-Star break of 2023. After hitting .280 with an OPS of .835 the first half of the ’23 season, Jung dropped off to .229/.638 the second half. His 2024 was .264/.719 and 2025 was even worse: .251/.684.
He started this season 0-for-18, got benched, dropped down in the lineup, then started hitting. He’s 6-for-15 since. That’s .400. All singles. But baby steps.
Maybe even more important was Jakob Junis’s one-two-three ninth inning to pick up his third career save. With the game on the line, it wasn’t Robert Garcia and it wasn’t Chris Martin. And it wasn’t a blown save.
Josh Jung. Jakob Junis. At least for one night, the Rangers may have solved two huge problems.
