Suddenly, the Rangers aren’t the most boring sport in Arlington.
After two and a half seasons of boring baseball at home, where they can’t score, don’t execute, and play offensively-challenged baseball, something happened.
Well, two things happened. The World Cup hit Arlington. And the Rangers started hitting. The World Cup features nearly five minutes of action within two hours of calisthenics. It’s as thrilling as watching jogging.
The Rangers at home have been just as stupefying. But something happened as this winning spurt is taking hold. The Rangers offense came to live at home. The three runs they scored in the second are usually more runs than they score all game. They added two more in the fourth. One in the sixth. Three in the seventh. One more for good measure in the eighth.
Ten runs. Seventeen hits. Production up and down the lineup. A well-balanced attack. These are not accolades one generally attaches to the Texas Rangers. It was a thing of beauty to watch. A series-worth of offense in one night.
But today they have a rare off day on a Friday because of the World Cup. Hey, there’s only so much excitement legally allowed in a sporting event in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers exceeded the legal limit yesterday.
