Halfway point.   Recently updated !

When the Rangers can’t win a Jacob deGrom start, they’re in trouble. They don’t have much else to count on. They wasted a start in which deGrom struck out eight and gave up just four hits and two runs in six innings.

All his offense could do was muster six hits and two runs in dropping a three-game series to the Miami Marlins.

It’s hard to say whether the Rangers miss Corey Seager, who missed his thirteenth consecutive game recovering from a concussion. He hasn’t contributed that much when he was in the lineup.

There just doesn’t seem to be enough talent on this team, both on the offensive side and the pitching side, to generate any sort of sustained momentum.

Today’s game is the 81st game of the season, the halfway mark.

You have to wonder how long both deGrom and Seager will be wearing Rangers uniforms. Both would be valuable additions to teams fighting for playoff spots and should bring in a nice haul of prospects to replenish the barren farm system.

They did their job. They brought the Rangers a World Championship. But they can’t do it all by themselves, and the Rangers just don’t have the firepower around them to expect much of anything.

The thought of dealing them has to be going through Chris Young’s mind. If ownership is going to be unwilling to invest more money into players, he’s going to have to trade the highest paid players and get at least two for the salary of one.

It’s not just the prospect that would come back, it’s the money that would be freed up to improve in other areas.

It would be a shame to see deGrom and Seager get dealt. But it’s more of a shame to see them stuck on a team that they can’t help.
