Jack Leiter was cruising for four innings. In fact, he was perfect. Twelve up, twelve down, six by strikeouts.
Then came the fifth inning. Leiter walked the first batter, Riley Greene, then gave up a home run to the next batter, Spencer Torkelson.
A triple and a single to start the sixth inning made it 3-0, and three runs are insurmountable for this Rangers offense.
The Rangers tried. They really tried. They scored a run in the top of the seventh on a ground out. But 3-1 was as close at Texas was going to get. When Detroit scored four more runs the botton of the seventh inning, the game was over.
The Rangers went down meekly, losing 7-1 and dropping the series to the Tigers. It was another game where the Rangers offense didn’t threaten.
Sadly, this game might be a microcosm of the Rangers season. Not enough starting pitching. Not enough offense.
