Maybe a glimmer of hope.   Recently updated !

Will Jon Daniels be the next Astros GM? Rangers fans can only hope.

It’s too late to improve the Rangers roster to a point where they could be considered better than mediocre.

With the Astros winning last night, they have taken a one-game lead on the Rangers for the A.L. West crown. Remember, the Rangers need to win by one games in order to win the division since Houston owns the tie breaker.

But Rangers fans were giving a glimmer of hope for the future of this Houston-Texas rivalry from senior baseball writer Keith Law from The Athletic. He produced a video in which he suggests who the Astros should hire as their next general manager. If it happens, it would be the best thing to happen to Texas until Ray Davis sells the team.

Keith Law suggested the Astros hire Jon Daniels. Yes, the same Jon Daniels who was the former GM of the Rangers for 17 seasons, from 2006 to 2022, who led them to six consecutive losing seasons before being fired before the 2023 season. The same Jon Daniels who was inept at drafting and developing players, especially pitching. The same control freak Jon Daniels who refused to hire an experienced major league manager for fear of not being the smartest guy in the room.

There’s a reason Daniels has toiled in obscurity the past four seasons as a senior advisor for the Tampa Bay Rays. The same reason Chris Woodward and Jeff Banister have failed to be hired as a manager once each man left the Rangers.

Jon Daniels found success when he was surrounded by smart baseball minds like A.J. Preller, Thad Levine, and Nolan Ryan. Once his brain trust left, and he was left on his own, the losing began in earnest.

So, please, Jim Crane, annoying owner of the Houston Astros. Please take Keith Law’s advice and hire Jon Daniels. The Ranger need all the help they can get now that they have an owner unwilling to invest in talent.
