The Rangers are trying to do something they haven’t been able to do since the end of June: win a series on the road. 

Texas swept the Blue Jays in Toronto in a four-game series June 25 to 28, then won two out of three in Cleveland against the Guardians. That was the last time they won a series on the road. They’ve lost eight road series in a row, in fact.

After losing Friday night in Phoenix to the Diamondbacks, they snapped back last night to beat Arizona 6-2. Today, their best pitcher of the second-half, Cal Quantrill, takes the ball and will try to help the Rangers get a rare road series win, which would help keep their faint playoff hopes alive. A win today would make Texas .500 on this six-game road trip, which would be an improvement over the .421 winning percentage they have on the road. 

A lot is riding on Quantrill today. But he’s been up to the task. In his last seven starts he’s allowed no runs in a game four times. The other three were one run, three runs, and three runs. Texas has won five of those seven. His ERA over those seven games is 1.66.

Quantrill needs to simply keep pitching today the way he’s been pitching the second half of the season, especially his last seven starts. 

The Rangers desperately need a win today.
