Is Corey Seager out of his season-long slump? The Rangers hope so. They have a chance to win with Seager hitting. They don’t without him.
He dragged a .213 average into Yankee Stadium, then went 0-for-4 in the opener of the three-game series to drop it down to .206. This is the worst he’s ever been at this point in a season. Because of it, the Rangers were in a freefall, losing ten of their previous fifteen, often in a whimper. They needed a win. They got it from the most unlikely source: the bat of Corey Seager.
The Rangers shortstop homered in the first to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Then he singled in a run in the fourth to score their sixth run. The Rangers won 6-1 over the Yankees.
Seager’s two-hit performance, surprising as it was, couldn’t overshadow Nathan Eovaldi’s eight-inning gem. It was badly needed for the Rangers and for Eovaldi, who got off to a rough start to the beginning of 2026 but has now had two brilliant start in a row, both against New York. He’s tossed fifteen innings, giving up just one run in those two starts.
Hopefully this is the start of a turnaround for Corey Seager and for Nathan Eovaldi. Because the Rangers cannot win without either one. It will be hard enough with both of them.
