Jacob deGrom stared down the Cubs for a 3-0 victory.

When Jacob deGrom does what he is capable of, the other team doesn’t have a shot. Yesterday, his slider was unhittable. As a result, the Cubs were shellshocked and shutout for the second game in a row.

DeGrom was so dominating, he was perfect through the first three innings, before giving up a leadoff double in the fourth to Nico Hoerner. He stranded Hoerner at second. He stranded the Cubs in Arlington.

When it was all over, deGrom pitched seven innings, striking out ten Cubs, allowing three hits, not walking anyone. It was his longest outing of the year, and his best, coming off his shortest and worst in New York.

The Cubs came into The Shed having scored the most runs in the major leagues. They rolled over the Rangers on Friday night but were shutout Saturday and Sunday. Sunday’s win in the rubber game of the series gave the Rangers a badly needed series victory.

An interesting fact unearthed by MLB.com’s Kennedi Landry: Since joining the Rangers in 2023, Jacob deGrom has pitching in six rubber-games. He’s 5-0. That’s an ace.

With the suddenly resurgent Nathan Eovaldi going tonight, the Rangers have a good shot at a three-game winning streak as they attempt to claw their way back to .500.
